“Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.”

Albert Einstein

According to Google (got to love the internet), imagination is defined as the faculty of forming new ideas, images, or concepts of external objects not present to the senses.

Think of it as this formidable inner-force that’s been keeping mankind on the brink of discovery and evolution since the beginning of time. As a bonus, it’s always free to use and readily accessible to everyone.

On the other hand, knowledge is the awareness or familiarity gained by experience of a fact or situation. It’s the information and skills acquired through experience or education.

In today’s world, there’s normally a price tag on knowledge, especially in the realms of institutionalized education (private schools, college, university, etc.). Unfortunately, this leaves many individuals unable to easily access it.

All of which brings us to today’s post. As you’d imagine, these two terms have been under close observation ever since I came across this particular Einstein quote. And after some mental debating, I’ve come up with 3 reasons why this quote pretty much reigns true.

But before we dive right into it…

That apart, let’s see why imagination outweighs knowledge!

#1. Imagination Leads To Introspection

Whenever we introspect, we’re temporarily putting our physical being to rest. We begin focusing wholeheartedly on our emotional and mental state. It’s basically a prerequisite to fully utilizing one’s imagination.

Therefore, in order for us to pull new and innovative concepts, we must first tap into a higher level of consciousness. And this calls for some deep-thought and self-evaluation – all of which are part of the introspection process.

Furthermore, it is through this process that we become more reliant on our mental and emotional power. We begin to harness the strength of our imagination and delve deeper within ourselves. And most importantly, we become the primary source by which new concepts emerge.

Unlike with knowledge, we aren’t resting on what we’ve previously gained from past experiences or learned through text. But with imagination, the focus is more so on what lies within, rather than what has already been identified to be real on the outside.

And honestly, I believe occasional introspection is a healthy coping mechanism. In that time period we are re-evaluating our inner-self and tapping into something boundless and greater than what the physical world can see.

Hence, I strongly recommend you guys periodically giving it a go. Find a quiet, comfortable space, close your eyes, mayhaps put on some soothing music, take deep breaths, and concentrate on what you’re feeling internally. The results might just surprise you!

#2. Imagination Forces Us To Discover & Grow

Knowledge is the sum total of what is already known, hence tapping into our mind’s eye becomes essential if we are to ever to uncover something new. For it is through our imagination we are allowed to venture into the unknown – to frolic in the flowery fields of life’s uncertainty.

And while smelling the roses and picking the tulips, we are garnering fresh ideas to bring back into the real world. The growth aspect comes in when those initial ideas don’t necessarily pan out in our favor and we have to repeatedly return to the drawing board. But that’s the beauty of imagination! We can always return to bring about improvements.

It’s not like knowledge where you’d have to pay for the next class level or pay for the next experience in learning. To an extent, you aren’t bounded financially or physically by imagination, so there’s less of a setback if you don’t first succeed.

In fact, it’s by constantly being pendulummed between our imagination and reality that we begin finding peace in our failures and shortcomings. We start to understand that we have unlimited tries to make the creative, constructive, and corrective adjustments needed to fully bring our vision to life.

Moreover, this series of trial and error gradually helps us enhance our problem-solving skills. We become more detailed, more careful about how we’re going to execute the myriad of mental phenomena running rampant in our imagination.

So as you go about discovering something new with your imagination, be open to repeated attempts; don’t get flustered. Take breaks when needed and remember that you’re only facilitating your own growth in the process.

#3. Imagination Empowers Us To Create

Whether our concepts are entirely from scratch or they’re a more clever and advanced version of a pre-existent concept, it is through one’s imagination that these creations are derived.

Let’s put it all into context with an example. Here in Nassau, there are two main movie theaters. There’s Galleria Cinema and there’s Fusion Superplex. The latter of the two is a bigger, modernized, upscale version of the former.

Likewise, it comfortably accommodates tons more movie-goers, projects films beautifully on a larger screen, and offers special amenities like VIP, IMAX, and pre-showings. Even the elevated seating arrangement is impressive.

Not only does it provide more leg room, but no longer must one be in constant annoyance of somebody whose head is just too huge for life. Undoubtedly, the creative minds behind Fusion took a pre-existent concept, revolutionized it, and brought it to life. The power of their collective imaginations were the driving force behind turning their vision into a money-making reality.

(*[cough cough]* Fusion Superplex sponsor my blog! *[cough cough]*)

And that’s the thing. They didn’t rest upon the knowledge that was already known about the design of local movie theaters here in Nassau. Conversely, they used their imagination and did it better.

So basically, imagination helps us to understand that in each of us lies the innate ability to create; it re-instills the idea that we are beings purposely placed on this Earth to create – life, art, and entertainment. (And to do so abundantly)

In conclusion, don’t be afraid to put your ideas out there. With enough willpower and the proper execution, you too can become an astounding success in what ever field you decide to journey along. But whatever you do, do not doubt your ability to create something that will positively impact and transform the world!

**Final Thoughts**

Listen Insighters, there’s nothing wrong with acquiring knowledge. In fact, I fully endorse the pursuit of knowledge through both education and experience. However, it’s even more so important to take that knowledge and mold into something transcendent.

Something that requires you to tap into your inner-self. That required you to not only discover, but grow in the process. Let it be something that empowered you to get out there and create.

And whatever you do, don’t place a hold or seal of doubt over the power of your imagination. Remember, you were born to create. Your ideas deserve to be brought to life and shared with the world.

As always, take care of yourselves. Put your health and needs first. And continue to be your best, unapologetic self. Love you guys!
