Albums come and albums go. It’s the way of music world. And while some albums are worth-wild, legendary masterpieces (Melodrama, Lemonade, Norman F***ing Rockwell!, etc.), others leave more to be desired.
Nonetheless, we music lovers are once again on the precipice of a new decade. The turning of the musical tide, where anything can happen.
Will Pop music reclaim its title as the music genre supreme? Will Rap continue to give Pop a run for its money? Or will another genre finally find its way at the forefront of the mainstream?
(I’m hoping Alternative, Indie-Rock, Lo-fi, and House music get some major reception this decade.)
With so much possibilities roaming the atmosphere, it only makes sense to quiver in anticipation for new releases from our faves.
Hence, today we’ll be looking at 5 artists whose upcoming albums I cannot wait to listen to.
Now, not everyone on this list is officially confirmed to release in 2020, so we’ll be going off of speculations, usual release patterns, and an article of faith.
So without further ado, let’s get antsy.
NUMBER-FIVE [5]
Frank Ocean

Frank make me cry an Ocean of tears, hasn’t released a project since his astounding 2016 opus ‘Blond’. Luckily, it has been confirmed that he’s expected to drop a new album this year, inspired by House music.
And I couldn’t be anymore excited! It’s definitely going to be interesting to see how he blends his soulful, R&B mannerisms with the typical dancy flavors of house music.
Perhaps some Lo-fi vibes will manifest to bridge the gap between the two styles on the upcoming album? Then again, you never really know with Frank Ocean. All I do know is, it’s gonna be good!
Frank, alongside Travis Scott are set to headline Coachella 2020 in mid-April. In that case, we should receive the big release before then.
Certainly, it’s going to be difficult to follow up such a cerebral record like ‘Blond’, but I think Frank’s best is yet to come. Fingers crossed.
NUMBER-FOUR [4]
Rihanna

After getting royally snubbed at the 2017 Grammy Awards for her incredible 8th studio album ‘ANTI’, Rihanna went on a musical hiatus.
Sure, between now and the release of her last project she’s been featured in a few songs. However, she’s mostly been exerting her energy into the management and promotion of both her cosmetic and lingerie line. Fenty Beauty and Fenty X Savage.
And who can blame her? Over the span of 4 years, she has really blossomed into one of the most respected women in business today.
Albeit very happy for her success, we the fans would like new music! Kindly place being the AVON lady on hold, and deliver this rumored Reggae album.
Thank u, next!
NUMBER-THREE [3]
Kendrick Lamar

The world is still quaking over the genius that was ‘To Pimp A Butterfly’ and more recently, 2017’s ‘DAMN’. Both robbed of Album of The Year at the Grammy’s.
(No offence to Taylor Swift’s 1989, which was a pretty kick-ass Pop record.)
Nevertheless, K DOT seems to be on the verge of returning to the musical fold. It’s been rumored that his next body of work will be heavily influenced by Rock.
My hope is that it’s something boundary-pushing and nothing like we’ve ever heard in modern music. And given his reputation for delivering top-tier albums, I’d say we’re in for a treat.
Let’s just hope he takes home AOTY, the next go round.
Sigh, an introvert can only dream.
NUMBER-TWO [2]
Adele
Adele has been gone for quite a while now. And during this time, she has underwent some tremendous life changes. Divorcing her husband and loosing a healthy amount of weight to boot.
She’s recently been spotted vacationing in the Caribbean with close friend Harry Styles. From the few images that surfaced of her, she seems to be in good spirits, which matters most.
Since late 2019, rumors have been sparking wild about her electrifying return. So honestly, I’m just waiting for her to do what she does best and stop the world.
I’m interested to see which direction the new album takes. Will depression be properly restored to its former glory? Or will we see a more celebratory, upbeat side to Adele?
We’ll just have to stay tuned to find out.
Honorable Mentions
- Lana Del Rey
- Katy Perry
- Dua Lipa
- Travis Scott
- The Weeknd
- Azealia Banks
- LORDE*
- Beyonce
NUMBER-ONE [1]*
Lady Gaga

Yes, we loved Gaga in ‘A Star Is Born’. Her acting was incredible and her singing was show-stopping per usual. Lady, you’ve collected your well-deserved accolades and now we, your greedy fans want MORE!
Rumors of LG6 have been flying about since 2019. And now we’re just waiting to be struck with some confirmation – a single to be exact.
Now recently, there’s been a leak of an unreleased track called ‘Stupid Love’, the rumored lead-single for LG6.
However, nothing has been officially confirmed from Gaga’s end. Although she did send an interesting tweet to fans, pretty much dismissing the rumors.

Nonetheless, it’s always exciting to see what this artistic chameleon is going to do next. And not just sonically, visually too. The kind of fashion each era brings also makes Gaga’s new album releases that more worth anticipating.
My hope is that she returns to deliver a ground-breaking Pop record. Then again, one should never make the mistake of placing Gaga in a box.
Overall, whatever Gaga decides to do for LG6, critics and Little Monsters the world over will have their eyes and ears glued. I know I will.

Sidebar: Although it’s been pushed back due to the passing away of her dog Pearl, I would PEE, CRY, and SCREAM if Lorde actually released her new album this year. I need some new music from her to properly cope and navigate through this stage of my young-adult life.
