“There is a pleasure in the pathless woods,
Lord Byron
There is a rapture on the lonely shore,
There’s society, where none intrudes,
By the deep sea, and music in its roar:
I love not man the less, but Nature more”
Hey there Insighters and welcome back to another installment of #LifestyleWednesdays (On Thursday).
With so much currently going on in The Bahamas and the world at large, I thought today’s post would prove most apt.
As we all know, COVID-19 has been running rampant across the globe and several countries (included The Bahamas) have resorted to implementing a 24-hour curfew.
And I know this time of quarantine must be proving extremely tedious for some of you (ahem, extroverts). Nevertheless, it is important to see this as an opportunity for self-renewal and evolution.
That said, today’s lifestyle post will be centered on 5 constructive things to do while in quarantine.
But before we jump right into it…
(If you’re new to Introverted-Insight, it’s really awesome to have you here. And if you’re a returning reader, welcome back Insighter! I’m always grateful to have you in my Little Space To Be Creative.)
(By all means, enjoy today’s post and feel free to browse the site for more great content, including short-stories and musical commentary.)
Formalities aside, let the list begin!
5. Netflix
I know, I know. There’s just something about lying haphazardly on your Johnny Cakes, slowly panic-eating yourself into oblivion that screams non-constructive.
However, I think this is a great contrast for those of us who would normally spend countless hours working and or schooling. Yes, I know many of us are still dealing with these realities at home. Nonetheless, your health is essential, especially during these times peppered with uncertainty.
Take the rest your mind and body needs and catch up on the latest episodes of your fave shows. Hell, start a new series! I personally recommend ‘On My Block’ and ‘YOU’ for those who haven’t seen it as yet.
Now, I’m not advocating for you to Netflix the entire quarantine away. But, what I am suggesting is that sometimes you’ve got to do less now in order to get more done later.
So by all means, Netflix and quarantine (in moderation).
4. Catch Up With Friends & Loved Ones
If you’re anything like me, you tend to be pretty terrible with keeping abreast with everything happening with your closest friends and loved ones.
With the day-to-day buzz of everyday life – work work, freelance work, blogging, graphic designing, working on this F***ING BOOK, breathing, you start to understand how natural it is for me to remain enclosed in my own affairs.
On the bright side, this time of quarantine places life at a slower pace. Consequently, this provides that long-awaited chance to really dig into what’s new with those you care about.
And albeit there are other important things to do during quarantine season, sending an encouraging word, a high-quality meme, or just a sticker will let somebody know that you’re thinking about them and their health.
And that in itself is pretty damn constructive.
3. Hobbies/Learning
It’s too often that the demand of our everyday lives limits the amount of hobbying and the rate of learning we’re able to complete on a daily basis.
For instance, when was the last time you painted something eye-catching, wrote something transcendent, made some new music, or even danced like a seizure-stricken maniac in the privacy of your room, during the midnight hour with your headphones at max volume?
(Okay, that last one might’ve been too self-detailed.)
But seriously, if that took you some time to answer, then I highly recommend getting back into your creative and inquisitive bag.
This quarantine season is the perfect time to venture into a new hobby and or learn a new efficiency.
Become fluent in another language, learn programming or that new video editing software. Improve your graphic design skills. READ SOMETHING!
Now is the time to expand your knowledge and do the constructive things that make your soul sing, that reconnect you with your sense of humanity.
And I do understand that getting back into the grove of things, or starting from the beginning is never easy. Nevertheless, the start is essential and most definitely will be worth it.
There’s no limit to your ability to grow Insighters; take advantage of the quarantine that is before us and make magic.
(Tun yuh han’ ‘n’ mek fashun!)
2. Meditation/Exercise
Okay now, this one is a BIGGIE! If there was ever a time for your time keep your body and mind in tune, it would be now.
When it comes to meditation I suggest you find yourself some badass headphones and a comfortable place to rest your Johnny Cakes. Head over to the Tube of You (i.e. YouTube) and search up meditative music and positive I AM affirmations.
By doing so, you’ll soon find yourself gravitating toward a calm and positive center. Certainly, during this sacred time you are raising your vibrations, removing any unneeded energy, and gradually elevating your consciousness.
Likewise, frequent meditation heightens your sense of gratitude and your willpower to live and conquer another day. And that kind of resilience is something people of this world so desperately need for these times.
And who knows? Maybe meditation will be the thing that keeps you from snapping your sibling’s neck for breathing within a 6 feet proximity of you (HOPEFULLY!).
In like manner, it’s equally important to incorporate a manageable exercise regime. A jog, some at-home squats, push-ups, etc. Here in The Bahamas we are allowed 90 minutes of exercise outdoors during 24-hour curfew.
So I say, instead of using exercise and the grocery store as an excuse to go by people man house, you get in some much-needed cardio. So at least by the end of quarantine season you wouldn’t have to tuck your belly in your panties, b*tch!
But anyway, I digress.
To summarize: meditation + exercise = constructive!
1. Unplug From The Media

In the process of doing my own research on COVID-19 and past pandemics of a similar nature, I noticed something. It’s typically the fear of the virus that ends people faster than the actual virus itself.
That said, if all you’re doing during quarantine is watching or reading about how many people are being affected across the globe, you’re bound to become anxious.
Yes, I do understand the importance of remaining informed and current with what is going on with the virus and how best to avoid it. However, if it’s the only thing on your mind, you subconsciously begin living a life of fear.
And the worst thing you can do during these times is spazz yourself out. I’ve seen people materialize their own illnesses out of fear of the illness itself.
Being a media hog during this quarantine season is just like googling minor cold symptoms on WebMD in that dangerous heightens anxiety levels, which can foster depression and at worst, death.
So please Insighters, learn to periodically walk away from the media for hours at a time. Log out of social media. Unplug the radio. Turn off your bloody phone!
Give yourself time to recuperate from the endless stream of information that far too often consumes our daily existence. Trust me, your sanity will thank you.
Final Thoughts
Insighters, pandemics are nothing new to humanity. There have been several in the past century and we lived through them.
I’m not saying be an ignorant buttplug and endanger your life and those around you by not taking things seriously.
I’m not giving you the green light to immobilize yourself with fear of this virus either.
What I am saying is that it is incumbent of us as a human race to take the necessary precautions to continue living a responsible, hopeful, and constructive life.
All in all, I hope today’s post was helpful to you in some way.
As always, take care of yourselves. Put your health and needs first. And continue to be your best, unapologetic self. Love you guys!

Sidebar: So far, quarantine season has reconnected me with so many things I’ve missed doing – sleeping during the day, reading, writing, and of course, dancing like a seizure-stricken maniac in the privacy of my bedroom. 🙂
