Ever since early childhood, I’ve always tried my best to maintain a positive approach to any obstacle. Whether it was something simple like correctly pronouncing the word ‘mis-cell-a-ne-ous’, or something major like successfully crossing a busy street. The latter of which I still experience difficulty with. 

Nonetheless, as I got older and began viewing the world around me through a more critical, objective, and creative lens, I realized the importance of remaining in a state of positivity. 

And I’m sure all of us can personally attest to the fact that it’s not always so easy. Life happens. Shit happens. Shit happens in life and it takes a serious toll on our physical and mental man or woman. However, the opportunity to re-enter your own positive, homeostatic state is always there. 

And so today Insighters, we’ll be looking at 3 actionable ways to help us better maintain a positive state. But before all of that…

That said, let’s dive right into it! 


#1. Positive Body & Mind

Truthfully speaking, being and remaining positive begins with you. It’s literally your responsibility to dictate your mood throughout the day. Undoubtedly life will bring its troublesome hours, but as you begin to train both your body and mind, those hours begin to feel like mere seconds. 

“How do I train my body and mind?”, you may ask. Well, the approach is more rudimentary than you’d think. When it comes to your body, exercise is key! Now, nobody’s telling you to tear down the gym walls every day of the week.

Nevertheless, there should be some physical activity going on with you day-in-and-day-out. Even if it’s just a walk, a couple of strectches, or spontaneous dancing in your underwear to your favorite tunes. 

[Okay, that last one was maybe a little personal.] 

Even so, exercise helps get those endorphins going, which in turn limits stress, depression, and anxiety. And with these vices handicapped, the path to remaining positive becomes that much clearer. 

On the other hand, when it comes to upbringing the mind in the virtues of positvity, I recommend meditation. There’s something inexplicably soothing about completely zoning out and focusing your energy on all that is peaceful and good. 

To heighten this experience, I strongly recommend meditation music and incorporating daily, verbal affirmations. Trust me, developing a daily mantra of positive phrases grants you an unstoppable mindset. Remember, what you think and what you speak into the universe will manifest into being. 

So as you meander throughout your week, implement some exercise and meditation. When the body and mind are in sync, positive energy abounds abundantly. 


#2. Positive Support System

After getting into the habit of working on your own positive energy, you become more conscious of the type of vibes you sense from those around you. You begin doing your best to protect your precious slice of positive peace, and you’re entitled to do so. 

And soon, you understand that you deserve to be around individuals are also radiating positiviity. That you need those who are going to encourage you periodically. These are the kind of people who you can vent to every other blue moon; people who you trust emphatically – your bestest friend or favorite relative for example. 

You need to be around individuals who are solution-driven; people are going to validate your feelings as you detail any conflictive, negative emotions you may be experiencing. The road to maintaining positivity is not meant to be trekked down solo. 

So, I admonish you to evaluate those who you’re constantly in close contact with and decide whether or not they actually contribute to the positive energy you’re emitting. If not, you run the risk of becoming drained and stagnant. And trust me, that’s not route you want to venture down. 


#3. Bring Forth Creation

Eventually, there will be times that we feel negatively overwhelmed by everything that’s happenening in our life. And it’s perfectly okay – we’re all human after all. So don’t deny yourself the right to feel; allow yourself to be torn down  by your emotions if need be. 

However, don’t spend too much time wallowing. You still need to build yourself back up and channel those unsettling emotions into something greater.

You see, by transporting those negative emotions into some art or craft, you create something transcendant and beautiful. It can be writing, poetry, making music, painting, sketching, drawing, knitting, graphic designing, and so on. 

By giving birth to these creations that reflect difficult periods in your life, you’re ridding yourself of all that is not positive. 

Furthermore, the art that you create and realise into the world not only serves you, but offers tidbits of comfort and inspiration to those who come into contact with it. So in a sense, you’re taking that of the negative, channeling it to create something positive, and sharing that positivity with the world around you. It’s basically a win-win….win. 

So, the next time you feel you’ve been knocked out of your positive state of being, tap into a special passion or hobby of yours. Create something that will give you peace and make your soul smile. Big or small, that creation is a step in a more positive direction.
