“It’s not that I’m so smart, it’s just that I stay with problems longer.”
Albert Einstein
The older I get, the greater my appreciation grows for the ability to critically think. I view it as a fundamental key to the success of mankind everywhere. And it’s especially advantageous to have command of this skill when we inevitably face the rigors of life.
Bystanders would typically marvel at individuals who seem to always pull themselves out of a rut or seemingly insurmountable situation. And such individuals do so every time, not because they have superpowers, but because they understand what it is to critically think before taking action.
They know what it is to meditate on their problems and consider all possible avenues and outcomes. You see, by allowing the severity of a situation to ruminate for a while, they become better equipped to derive forthright, rational solutions.
However, this phenomenon typically doesn’t happen overnight, nor is it that the first solution is always the winning one. In fact, a lot of solutions have to be refined and executed differently to get the desired result. But eventually, through proper usage of these 4 simple tips, one can experience a breakthrough.
And so today, we’ll be looking at 4 ways to improve upon our thinking skills in order to help better solve our conflicts when then arise. But before get right into it the think of it…

That said, let’s see how we can train our minds to think like geniuses.
#1. Be Calm
I know it seems like one of those common sense things. But you’d be very surprised by how many us overlook this utterly important tip. Being able to instinctively project calmness in the midst of a crisis shows strength and wisdom.
Nonetheless, I do understand that some problems are turbulent in nature and will push you to the verge of an emotional outburst. But before you ride the wave of that outburst and possibly trigger an psychotic episode, envision yourself having already diffused the situation.
Picture yourself having already achieved your desired end. By simply tapping into your imagination and visualizing yourself calm and assured, you’re much more likely to project that very sense of assured calmness.
I especially recommend putting this into practice if you’re the type of person who has to deal with many people on a daily basis. Nothing breeds satisfaction more than watching someone self-destruct all because of how unbothered you are by their attempts at provocation.
Trust me, by habitually finding refuge in calmness, you begin attributing it to a myriad of scenarios. And soon enough, it’ll become part of who you are. Which in turn leads to less pangs of stress, anxiety, anger, and depression.
Remember, no matter the situation, you have control over your response and your reaction. So remain calm, mull the situation over a bit, then carry on smartly, but more importantly, calmly.
#2. Think Logically & Objectively
Day-in-and-day-out, we go ahead and tend to make the wrong decisions, all because of our emotional attachment to the elements involved. This is especially dangerous when it comes to dealing with things like finances, time-investment, and energy-investment.
Indeed, by basing all your actions solely on emotion, you’re setting yourself up for a disaster. You can even find yourself in a vicious cycle of inner-turmoil, frustration, fatigue, and pain.
Hence, I strongly recommend getting into the habit of detaching your personal feelings from your problems. And it’s definitely easier said than done. So I also urge you to occasionally ask for the advice of others. It can be a trustworthy friend, relative, YouTube video, hell even a stranger could offer up some wisdom.
Tap into that left side of your brain and pick apart the issue and begin logically reading things out in black and white. Oftentimes the solution is rather simple and straightforward, but we allow our emotional ties to project a convoluted path to a reasonable resolve.
Try taking a cue from all the machines that surround us today. Think of a computer function in Excel, it’s either true or false, yes or no. Visualize yourself as that function that simplifies and puts things into perspective objectively.
And I understand that naturally we humans are emotional beings, but do not allow your emotions to lead to your detriment. Now, this is not to say that every problem should be taken on with a black or white approach. Absolutely not!
Rest assured, there are many instances were finding a little gray in the midst goes a very long way. Which brings me to my next point.
#3. Think Creatively And Use Your Imagination
Coupled with logical objectivity, the nature of our thinking must also be comprised of creative imagination. In other words, we must be able to reinvent the wheel at an instant.
As you navigate your way through life, you’d come to realize that some situations call for some serious innovation. They call for special solutions for their unique circumstances. These are the kinds of situations where you have to dig deep to avoid adverse consequences on all sides of the fence. Let’s put it into context with an example.
Say it’s the middle of the week – a Wednesday morning. Thomas has to prepare lunch for today and the following 2 work days. His dilemma is that he only has 2 cans of soup left for his lunch. He always eats one can of soup per day for lunch.
Now, he could choose to strave one day and eat on the other two. Or, he can get creative and save his gut for 3 days straight. So instead of starving a day, he opens both cans of soup, pours it into a huge bowl, adds some water to stretch it out, and divides it evenly into 3 storage containers.
BOOM! Problem solved, crisis averted. Now he can happily fill his gut for the rest of the work week without worrying about not making it ’til payday to restock on soup.
And I understand that what Thomas did wasn’t exactly ground-breaking, but it surely went beyond the bounds of black and white logic and reasoning.
Hence, I urge you guys to get into the habit of thinking outside of the box. You’d be surprised by what you can mentally drum up. Remember, if Thomas can make it so can you!
#4. Be Prepared
Undoubtedly, preparedness is key to solving a lot of our problems. And there’s nothing wrong with being more than ready to do what needs to be done. Oftentimes, we can flesh out problems beforehand and if they’re in fact our problem to deal with, we can plot to turn them out in our favor.
And with this particular step, I think it incorporates elements from all its predecessors. In order to get our minds into the state of habitually thinking ahead, we must first have a domineering sense of calm and be able to use both sides of our brain interchangeably. The left dealing with logic and reasoning and the right dealing with creativity and imagination.
With these 3 components properly synced, the ability to master forward thinking becomes inevitable. And soon enough, you’ll find that there’s no problem that’s too much for you to handle. So please, don’t wait until your problems come knocking at your door. Begin with the end in mind and prepare early. Trust me, you’ll be happy you did!
**Final Thoughts**
Well Insighters, we’ve talked a lot today about ways to improve our critical thinking skills. We’ve learned that calmness is the beginning of forging a great mind.
We learned that objectivity and logic are just as important as creativity and imagination. And finally, we learned that when all these factors combines, it creates a sense of readiness that paves the way for a sharp, dynamic mind.
So remember, in you lies the ability to conquer any problem that comes your way. All it takes is some practice with these 4 tips.
As always, take care of yourselves. Put your health and needs first. And continue to be your best, unapologetic self. Love you guys!

Sidebar: A PRO TIP: Sometimes silence and doing nothing is the best way to go; because once we program our mind to understand that a lot of problems are not ours to begin with, we’ll ultimately find ourselves with less to deal with. 🙂
